I value emotional safety, the power of presence through deep listening, and learning through relating. I believe we heal best when we feel fully accepted as we are, so I integrate mindfulness approaches with other evidence-based practices while prioritizing the quality of the therapeutic relationship.
I am passionate about relationships, particularly the relationship we have with ourselves and those closest to us. Some of the challenges I enjoy helping clients navigate are: anxiety, relationship difficulties, past trauma, and grief and loss.
I earned my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology (Ph.D.) from an APA-accredited program at The University of Kansas. Since 2012, I have worked with adults, young adults, couples, and groups in college counseling centers, community mental health settings, and private practice. For my work in community mental health settings, I provided therapy primarily in Spanish.
Cherie Oertel is a prelicensed therapist practicing under the supervision of Dr. Shereen Mohsen.
