What Is A Comprehensive Evaluation?
A comprehensive evaluation looks beyond one specific diagnosis to explore the questions you have about yourself or your child. You may be looking for a clearer path to understand lifelong traits, experiences you’ve had, or what kind of support fits your needs. You may even be looking to ensure a diagnosis is correct.
We consider all of your history, including behavioral, social, emotional, and cognitive factors, to build a fuller picture of how you think.
Some of the tests or tasks will ask you to report or describe feelings, memories, thoughts or habits, while others are completed with your assessor. Your responses might be compared with those of people of a similar age or other relevant characteristics. Throughout the entire process, your assessor will be there to explain what to expect and give you every opportunity to ask questions.

Worried about not know exactly what testing you need? You don’t need to know before reaching out to us. A comprehensive psychological evaluation is immensely helpful if you have questions, as we can help you better understand the traits that you or people close to you say they’ve noticed over time.
Sometimes, getting an answer can be an immense relief because testing can give you a name to incredibly confusing symptoms, which leads to a clearer path forward.

Evalutations We Don’t Provide
Relucent doesn’t provide the evaluations or assessments listed below. Whenever possible, we are more than willing to help point you toward another resource that may be a better fit you’re looking for.
- Fitness for duty
- Emotional support animals
- Psychosis or thought-related disorders
- Visual or auditory concerns
- Medical concerns or physical health-related evaluations
- Court-mandated or court-recommended evaluations
- Custody-related issues such as parental fitness or divorce
- Post-hospitalization discharge planning
The Logistics Of A Comprehensive Evaluation
- The evaluation includes a 1.5-hour video intake, 6–8 hours of testing, and a 1-hour video feedback session about 2–3 weeks after testing. Testing can be in person, virtual, or a mix of both and is usually divided into 1–3 hour sessions based on your needs.
- With your permission, your assessor may talk with professionals or people in your life who can provide helpful information. You’ll complete a Release of Information form for each person before we contact them.
- Review of up to 10 pages of records is included. If you would like us to review more, your assessor will explain the additional cost and get your approval before any charges are added.
- Children and teens receive an age-appropriate letter or story that explains their results in clear, accessible language.
- You’ll receive a PDF of your report the day before your feedback session. It includes your results, any diagnoses identified, and recommendations for next steps. During your feedback session, your assessor will explain the findings and answer your questions. An optional brief follow-up about one month later is also included.
- All paperwork, intake appointments, and feedback sessions are completed electronically.
- You must be physically located in California for every appointment, including virtual appointments. If you are outside California, your appointment will need to be rescheduled, and late cancellation or rescheduling fees may apply.

Will my child’s school accept the results for an IEP or 504 plan?
How do I know if I need a comprehensive evaluation instead of a neuropsychological evaluation?
A comprehensive evaluation may be a good fit when you have several questions about yourself or your child and want to explore possible explanations together. A neuropsychological evaluation focuses more closely on areas such as memory, attention, learning, and other thinking skills. During your consultation, we can help you understand which evaluation best fits the questions you’d like answered.
Can adults be evaluated for ADHD, AUDHD, or Autism within a comprehensive psych eval?
Yes. ADHD or autism can be explored as part of a comprehensive evaluation when they’re relevant to the questions you’re hoping to answer. This allows us to consider these possibilities alongside other factors that may help explain your experiences rather than looking at one diagnosis in isolation.
Is virtual testing as accurate as in-person testing?
Some parts of an evaluation can be completed virtually, while others may need to be completed in person. What’s appropriate depends on the questions you’re asking and the tests needed to answer them. We’ll explain which format is appropriate for your evaluation before testing begins.
What happens after I receive my results?
You’ll meet with your assessor for a feedback session to go over your results, what they mean, and recommendations for next steps. You’ll have time to ask questions, and an optional brief follow-up about one month later is included if more questions come up after you’ve had time to review everything.
Out-Of-Network Information
Relucent Psychology Group is an out-of-network practice, so we don’t accept or bill insurance. We can provide a superbill after testing if you’d like to request reimbursement from your insurance company, but reimbursement isn’t guaranteed. If you’re checking your benefits, the CPT codes are 90791, 96130, 96131, 96136, and 96137.
You’ll pay for your evaluation in full before receiving your report. We don’t offer payment plans, but you’re welcome to schedule your intake for a later date if you need more time. If you don’t request a superbill, we’ll provide a Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs. We’ll also explain any additional fees before you agree to them.
You don’t need a referral to schedule an evaluation. We accept major credit cards and HSA/FSA cards at our San Jose office.
